Normal Work Schedule: Typical business hours are Monday -Thursday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM and Friday 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Remote work will also be considered due to the large geographical territory covered by this training program.

Tri-County Technical College (TCTC) is seeking an innovative, engaging, flexible full-time instructor/training director for the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) training program housed at TCTC. Reporting to the Assistant Dean, instructor will teach New Miner and Annual Refresher classes for both MSHA Part 46 and Part 48. Classes may either be open enrollment or company-specific contract training, and instructor must be willing to teach in both in-person and online formats based on customer needs. Instructor must have strong public speaking skills and be able to work both independently and in a collaborative format with the MSHA Program Training Coordinator. Although training classes are generally held during daytime weekday hours, some travel will be required since the MSHA training program at TCTC is responsible for covering the entire state of South Carolina (SC) with occasional training in surrounding states for customers with additional locations besides their SC locations. Remote work will also be considered due to the large geographical territory covered by this training program.
Job Duties:
To develop, promote, and provide in-person and online training in both MSHA-specific topics and other safety-related topics to fulfill the training requirements of the MSHA grant. The successful candidate must work independently to both promote and provide MSHA and other safety-related training for customers. Training includes MSHA-specific training as well as other safety-related topics. Promotional activities include meeting with potential customers (mining companies and contractors for mining companies), preparing training quotes, exhibiting at industry conferences, serving on industry-related committees as needed, and presenting at industry conferences as needed. Works with supervisor to develop and execute a marketing plan for the program and would provide monthly updates to supervisor regarding training provided as well as the pipeline of future training. Works with other employees to fulfill MSHA grant cost-matching and reporting requirements. Because this training program covers the whole state of South Carolina, overnight travel is periodically required depending on customer needs and location. Because position may also include providing training to customers outside of South Carolina, use of an online platform to provide online training is also required depending on customer needs.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Either already holds MSHA Instructor Surface (IS) certification or has 2 or more years of documented mining supervision experience on a PT46 or PT48 mining operation and is willing to study and obtain MSHA IS certification. Must be familiar with the MSHA Act of 1977, Miners Rights, and the Part 30 Code of Federal Regulation.
Preferred Qualifications
Already holds MSHA Instructor Surface (IS) certification and has at least 1 year of safety training experience.
