EXOS Aerospace Systems & Technologies, Inc. pioneers reusable space vehicles to provide affordable, frequent access to space.

With an 18% stake in Scorpius Space Launch Company (SSLC) and plans for full acquisition in 2025, EXOS leverages SSLCs TRL-9 Type 5 liner-less, carbon-composite cryogenic tanks, validated on the Intuitive Machines IM-1 lunar mission. These tanks, built with Hexcel carbon fiber and SSLCs Sapphire 77 resin, use room-temperature, out-of-autoclave curing for superior strength and thermal stability. Our Greenville facility seeks skilled technicians with mechanical aptitude, trade expertise, and CNC familiarity, akin to Aircraft Aviation Technicians, to advance reusable rocket and composite technologies.

ASSEMBLY & MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN:

The Assembly & Mechanical Technician assembles, maintains, tests & integrates mechanical, instrumentation, and carbon-composite systems for reusable space vehicles. This role requires hands-on mechanical skills, instrumentation expertise, and basic CNC operation-mirroring an Aircraft Aviation Technicians capabilities. You will assemble SSLCs Type 5 tanks and flight hardware, troubleshoot systems and support vehicle operations with the Operations Team post-assembly. The position demands independent problem-solving and attention to detail for safe, reliable spaceflight.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• ASSEMBLY:
• Assemble SSLC's type 5 carbon-composite tanks, propulsion components & structures, using hand tools, torque wrenches, and basic fixtures.
• Join pre-cured composite and metallic components with adhesives and fasteners for flight hardware
• MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR:
• Perform maintenance and repairs on mechanical and composite systems, using non-destructive testing (NDT) like ultrasonic and radio graphic inspections.
• Diagnose and repair propulsion, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems for cryogenic and high-pressure conditions.
• Refurbish flight hardware, replacing components like seals and valves.
• Instrumentation and Control Systems:
• Install and calibrate sensors (e.g., pressure transducers, thermocouples, strain gauges) for real-time monitoring.
• Fabricate wiring harnesses, ensuring MIL-STD-461 compliance and EMI shielding.
• Troubleshoot data acquisition systems (e.g., PXIe, SCXI) and bus architectures (PCIe, CAN).
• TROUBLESHOOTING & DIAGNOSTICS:
• Conduct root cause analysis using thermal imaging, vibration analysis, and LabVIEW-based tools.
• Collaborate with engineers to validate performance and implement design improvements.
• Execute fault isolation protocols with oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers.
• Fabrication and Tooling:
• Fabricate components using basic CNC operations (3-axis milling) and machining techniques.
• Assemble flight hardware and test rigs for pressure (up to 6000 psi) and load testing per ASME and NASA standards.
• VEHICLE OPERATIONS SUPPORT:
• Support vehicle operations with the operations team, including pre-flight checks, fueling, and ground support equipment (GSE) setup.
• Conduct final inspections and instrumentation checks for flight readiness.
  
• DOCUMENTATION AND COMPLIANCE:
• Interpret schematics and specifications to guide assembly and operations.
• Maintain records per AS9100 and NASA-STD-8739 standards.
• Develop SOPs for integration and operations.
• TESTING AND VALIDATION:
• Instrument flight hardware for burst, thermal, and vibration tests (MIL-STD-810).
• Analyze telemetry to validate performance in cryogenic and vacuum environments.
• SAFETY AND QUALITY:
• Follow safety protocols for cryogenic propellants and composites, using PPE.
• Ensure compliance with FAA, NASA, and AS9100 standards.
• BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate degree in aviation maintenance, aerospace, or mechanical technology (or 5+ years of experience in aircraft maintenance, aerospace, or composites).
• 3+ years in aerospace/aviation maintenance, composite assembly, or instrumentation.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instruments.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• General physical fitness is required for some work areas, flight hardware typically is built in tight quarters and physical dexterity is required
• Dexterity for confined spaces, lifting up to 25 lbs, and repetitive tasks.
• Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings and climbing hand over hand
• Ability to work at elevated heights
• Work in extreme conditions (heat, cold, rain) with exposure to composites, cryogenics, and noise.
• Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
• Adhere to OSHA and NASA safety standards with PPE.
