Summary

The section leader lead, coach, and direct the Toolroom employees regarding the design, drawings requisition of materials, subcontracting, expediting and/or the construction of production tools, gages, machines, mechanisms and attachments used for the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides supervision and technical leadership, direction, coaching, and feedback to the Toolroom employees
  • Distributes work orders to Apprentices, Machinists and Toolmakers
  • Responsible for managing requisition of time off for the Apprentices, Machinists, and Toolmakers
  • Observes machine operation to detect malfunctions and adjust machine controls as required
  • Acts as a stand-in for the Tool Crib Attendant when needed
  • Prepares purchase and work orders
  • Distributes weekly PMs for the Toolroom
  • Maintains adequate inventory of tools and supplies and requisitions stock to replenish inventory
  • Occasionally will be required to operate a BobCAD-CAM
  • Measures and inspects finished product to verify conformance of finished work
  • Works closely with Engineers, Production, Programmers, Plant Engineering and toolmakers to resolve machining and assembly problems
  • Back up Tool Room Supervisor when required
  • Promote a safe workplace by performing all tasks in a safe and thoughtful manner in compliance with all rules, procedures, instructions, devices, equipment and use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Maintain vigilance for any hazardous conditions or practices int he workplace and immediately report any unsafe condition or practice to your supervisor

  • Working knowledge of machine troubleshooting problems and determine solutions
  • Knowledge of hand tools, large scale machines and their repair and maintenance
  • Solid understanding of mathematics and the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Well-versed in hydraulics, welding, pneumatics, brazing and soldering
  • Proficient in CNC equipment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, CMM Systems, MRO Systems, 3D Modeling software, and CAD Software

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work in a climate-controlled environment.
  • Frequently required to use personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to be punctual and attend work on a regular and consistent basis
  • Needs to wear appropriate safety clothing and shoes as required. This includes a need for safety glasses lift belts, and steel toe shoes, etc.
  • Regularly works around moving mechanical parts
  • Must be able to stand for 50% of the time
  • Occasionally will be expected to lift large material not to exceed 60 pounds

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Tool & Die and/or Toolmaker Journeyman's Card
  • 15+ years in Toolmaking and/or CNC Programming
  • 3+ years of demonstrated leadership skills
