Position Overview

The Systems Network and Security Administrator manages all IT-related enterprise networking and security systems. This role provides technical networking and security design, implementation, and maintenance across the organization, from strategic decision making, to project planning, to reactive tactical task execution. The Systems Network and Security Administrator evaluates, analyzes, coordinates testing, integrates, monitors, and maintains capacity of networking and security resources in the data center and across the organization. This will include developing systems and policies, as well as overseeing the implementation of procedures to ensure that both company and customer data is kept secure, and networks are operational. This role implements systems aimed toward preventing virus and malware infections of company computer hardware. This could include company email, files and digital assets or reports, but also associate data and sensitive customer information.

Essential Functions

  • Defines and maintains enterprise network and security systems, manages, and develops plans and procedures, and ensures safety and privacy of their newly developed internet and intranet sites
  • Creates, modifies, and deletes user profiles and other access controls
  • Review's security logs and violation report
  • Helps analyze and shore up any possible vulnerability; must also be aware of any unusual activity and react swiftly to prevent or mitigate breaches
  • Implements stability and security procedures regarding virus and malware in the company's information hardware; this can include installation, upgrading, and improvement of malware detection and prevention software across the entire company, as well as implementing policies for firewalls and site-blocking
  • Provides technical advice on access control, security models, disaster recovery, business continuity planning, and security awareness training
  • Plans, implements, monitors, and troubleshoots internal information technology security policies, application security, access control, and corporate data safeguards
  • Performs network scanning and vulnerability assessments
  • Analyzes and defines security requirements for local and wide area networks
  • Updates secure configurations by routinely reviewing vendor sites, bulletins, and notifications for security information
  • Mentors, assists, and provides support to Help Desk Technicians
  • Creates and maintains documentation of key areas, network documentation, and process flows
  • Establishes networking environments by designing system configuration and directing system installation: defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards
  • Develops, documents, and communicates plans for investing in network architecture, including analysis of cost reduction opportunities
  • Conducts research on emerging technologies in support of systems development efforts, and recommends technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and network flexibility
  • Where applicable, designs, develops, and oversees implementation of end-to-end network systems
  • Designs and implements connectivity by sizing, selecting, ordering, and installing new circuits
  • Provides capacity planning recommendations to help establish and maintain standards, uniform procedures, and 24/7 service levels across all computing platforms from a network and data center standpoint
  • Remains updated with new technologies and best practices and participates as a subject matter expert in enterprise-wide technology change programs, which effect the network, security, and datacenter infrastructure environment
  • Conducts research into emerging technologies and trends, standards, and products as required
  • Travels to remote sites as needed
  • Assists IT Support Desk troubleshooting PC security issues
  • Assists in on-call rotation as assigned which may include remote work, travel, or on-site assistance as dictated by the solution needed
  • Other duties as assigned or required
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science with an emphasis on networking and security or an IT Security Education from a Technical School with related studies
  • Network and Security related certification(s)
  • Two plus years' experience in network and security roles, WAN/LAN environments
  • Experience configuring Cisco routers and switches, Juniper switches, Palo-Alto firewalls, VLANs, VMWare, Aerohive access points, Cradlepoint WWAN
  • Valid Driver's License with no major infractions and dependable transportation
  • Work schedule flexibility as the job demands include extended shifts, odd hours, weekends, holidays as needed
  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and consultative skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload and meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and courteously to patrons, donors, sponsors, and co-workers
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, and peers
