The Environmental Health Manager II serves as a Project Manager in the Critical Area Permitting Section, conducting technical reviews of permit applications and service requests. This position is located in the Bureau of Coastal Management, within the Critical Area Permitting Section.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a Critical Area Permitting Project Manager.
  • Perform technical reviews of permit applications and service requests, including professional drawings and analytical documents, to ensure compliance with Critical Area Permitting Regulations and the Coastal Tidelands and Wetlands Act.
  • Review permit applications and service requests for consistency with the South Carolina Coastal Zone Management Program.
  • Conduct field work related to technical reviews and service requests.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to local governments, land developers, consultants, public officials, and citizens.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in natural or physical sciences or a related scientific field.
  • OR an associate degree in natural or physical sciences or a related technical field with at least one year of environmental health or related experience.
  • OR a high school diploma or GED with at least three years of environmental health or related experience.

Note: Degrees in related technical fields include Earth sciences, chemistry, biology, physics, soil science, environmental science, mathematics, etc.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Additional Requirements:

  • Customer service oriented.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently in the field.
  • Ability to prioritize and collaborate with agencies.
  • Work in all weather conditions and access non-traditional environments.
  • Travel throughout the state and occasional overnight travel.
  • Participation in emergency preparedness and recovery efforts.

Knowledge of relevant statutes, regulations, policies, and the federal Coastal Zone Management Act is required. Certification as a wetland delineator is preferred.
