Job Responsibilities
A granitic gneiss outcropping atop the dramatic Blue Ridge Escarpment gives Caesars Head State Park its name. Every fall, from the easily-accessible overlook atop the rocky peak of the Blue Ridge Escarpment, sight-seers are treated to the Hawk Watch program and a spectacular view that extends into North Carolina and Georgia.
Caesars Head connects to Jones Gap State Park in what is known as the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area, a 17,000-acre area of pristine southern mountain forest. Hikers can take a number of loops and traverse hiking trails that connect the parks, and trailside camping is available for those who choose the longer routes.
Job Purpose and Duties:
Assists with the overall operation and maintenance of Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area. Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies and standard operating procedures of the Department. Assumes the responsibilities of the Park Manager in the absence of higher-level employees.
1) Oversees the management of all retail outlets and related facilities.
2) Supervises and participates in the preparation of the park's fiscal records to include weekly operational reports as well as monthly and yearly operational summaries
3) Manages the human resources of the retail outlets including supervision, delegation of responsibilities and completion of performance appraisals.
4) Ensures that established policies, procedures and guidelines are followed in the collection and accounting of all revenues associated with retail outlets.
5) Directs requisitioning, storage and distribution of forms, supplies and equipment.
6) Work to accomplish the mission of the Park Service through the core values of Stewardship and Service. Effectively deliver quality customer service and address visitor concerns in a timely manner. Work to ensure that visitors leave with a positive experience and a desire to return.
7) Practice and promote teamwork within park, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year. to include but not limited to, park retail operations.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Associate's degree in Park Management or related field with (1) year related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Requirements:
1) Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking and standing on uneven terrain, crawling and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents and other material used in maintaining park facilities and grounds.
2) Requires knowledge of bookkeeping, sales, laws, and organizational practices; strong communication, planning, and training skills; ability to work with the public, operate a vehicle, and apply policies with sound judgment.
3) Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver's License.
