Summary/Objective: The Project Engineer (PE) promotes the company mission statement by
assisting Project Managers and Superintendents as part of a team who work together to create a safe work environment, build a quality project and keep projects on schedule while earning a fair and reasonable profit.

Essential Functions:

  • Learn what it means to be the on-site main contact for the project.
  • Learn how to oversee the project to assist in:
    • Scheduling.
    • Delivery.
    • Logistics, staging and phasing.
    • Quality control.
    • Employee staffing levels.
  • Ability to communicate with Owner and Architect/Engineer relating to field issues:
    • Understand issues and assist with resolution.
    • Know the proper time to involve Owners and Arc/Engineers.
  • Demonstrate leadership regarding Harper BIG 6:
    • Safety/SOAR.
    • Core.
    • Procurement/scheduling.
    • Pre-install meetings.
    • Exterior skin systems.
    • No strike utility plan.
  • Understand and uphold the Project Safety Requirements; ensure Harper safety requirements are explained, implemented, and demonstrated:
    • Project specific safety pre-planning.
    • Coordinate with Safety Manager to develop a project-site specific SOAR Orientation Document.
    • Soar Implementation (if allowing other Harper staff to conduct orientations ensure proper message and execution of the document).
    • OSHA standards are understood and followed based on the actions of on-site workers.
    • Perform weekly Toolbox Talks with all active trades.
    • Conduct safety stand-down training as necessary.
    • Participate in the timely and effective investigations of all incidents including injuries, property damage, behavioral issues and near misses.
    • Conduct weekly site safety inspections in Procore.
  • Assist the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents to create Schedules as well as determine sequencing of work.
  • Understand project QAQC:
    • QA example:
      • Pre-installation meetings.
    • QC example:
      • Visual and documents inspections of work in place.
  • Learn to oversee the coordination of all trade partners:
    • Project site specific logistics/use including associated rules.
    • Scheduling of each trade (who goes where and when to start).
    • Develop and implement recovery strategies to maintain project schedule.
    • Clarity of design versus installation (RFI's).
    • Schedule for the trades (durations and commitments of durations).
  • Crosstrain with Field Engineers and field staff to ensure staff development - this includes multiple trade partner personnel.
    • Ability to manage timesheets for field staff.
    • Ability to manage and complete all daily reports.
    • Manage all jobsite equipment.
    • Develop and implement working relationship with Safety Manager.
    • Recognize and understand the importance of compliance of local building codes.
    • Recognize and understand the importance of compliance of all ADA code requirements.
    • Participate in and recognize the importance of all required project inspections.
    • Ensure by documenting and executing a proper Harper punch list prior to inviting Owner and Design Team punch.
  • Procore
    • Fill-In Daily Log but not responsible.
    • Navigate and understand how to utilize directory.
    • Utilize and understand all functions of the drawings tab.
      • Recent drawings.
      • Create inspections.
    • Create and track an observation.
    • Utilize the photos application.
    • Create and maintain the punch list.
    • Create an RFI for review by Superintendent and seek RFI information where applicable.
    • Know where to find the schedule, read and understand.
    • Understand how to navigate and seek information from Specs tool.
    • Understand how to navigate and seek information from Submittals.
    • Enter timesheet in Procore.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervisor Responsibilities as delegated by your direct report: Carpenters, Laborers, Subcontractors, Teammates, etc.

Work Environment: This position is required to work in a variety of weather conditions relative to construction jobsite environments and must be able to perform the physical requirements of the job, as assigned. Typical Monday - Friday, 8 AM- 5 PM hours.

Physical Demands: Weather and climate conditions will vary throughout the progress of a project and the PE must be able to inspect all ongoing construction activities over the duration of the assigned project. This role requires walking over varied terrain, climbing, stooping, bending, and lifting. Lifting requirements vary from minimal loads to heavy; but help is always available with heavier loads. Inspection for quality, consistency and completeness of work frequently requires climbing ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.

Travel Required: Travel expected to/from multiple jobsites, projects, and offices. Little overnight or weekend travel. Must possess a valid US driver's license.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field required; alternatives include minimum 3 rotations as Intern or Co-Op in the construction industry.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Plans and Specifications.
