Overview

A leading manufacturing company is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Automation Engineer to join their team. This role focuses on designing, developing, and implementing automated systems to enhance manufacturing efficiency, quality, and safety. The ideal candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities, integrate hardware and software solutions, and support ongoing system improvements.


Key Responsibilities

1. System Design & Development

  • Design, program, and implement automation systems including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, robotics, and control systems.
  • Develop system architecture and select appropriate hardware/software platforms.
  • Prepare detailed engineering documentation such as system specs, wiring diagrams, and program logic.

2. Process Optimization & Integration

  • Analyze current manufacturing processes to identify automation opportunities.
  • Integrate automation solutions with existing production lines, ERP, and MES systems.
  • Ensure smooth system integration with minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.

3. Troubleshooting & Support

  • Provide both on-site and remote support for automation systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware/software issues and programming errors.
  • Train maintenance and operations teams on system use and troubleshooting.

4. Continuous Improvement

  • Lead initiatives to improve system performance, reduce cycle times, and enhance product quality.
  • Apply Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to drive efficiency and eliminate waste.

5. Project Management

  • Oversee automation projects from concept through commissioning.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to meet project goals.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with safety standards.

6. Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure systems meet all relevant safety and regulatory standards (e.g., ISO, OSHA).
  • Maintain accurate documentation for system design, programming, and change control.


Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3–7 years in automation engineering, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting. Hands-on experience with PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi), HMI/SCADA development, and industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in automation platforms and software (e.g., Rockwell Automation Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal, Ignition). Familiarity with robotics, vision systems, and sensor integration. Programming skills in Python, C/C++, or ladder logic are a plus.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication, and teamwork skills. Capable of managing multiple projects independently.
  • Language: Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required.
  • Work Environment: Combination of office and production floor settings. Occasional travel may be required for system commissioning or troubleshooting. Adherence to PPE and safety protocols is mandatory.
