Position Overview

This position is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing the implementation and operation of insurance and risk management programs at the strategic business unit (SBU) level within the organization. The role involves acting as a corporate or intra-corporate expert on insurance and risk management methods, procedures, systems, and contractual implications related to insurance, as well as developing critical trends and historical information to maintain up-to-date risk mitigation techniques specific to the core business of the SBUs.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Review risks arising from SBU operations and recommend appropriate contract language, insurance coverage, and risk mitigation strategies for each project.
  2. Assess and understand the interrelationships between contractual provisions and their impacts on risk management and insurance practices.
  3. Participate in negotiations with clients regarding risk and insurance matters in collaboration with a proposal team.
  4. Manage a cost-effective insurance program and monitor broker and carrier performance.
  5. Interface with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, other locations, and clients.
  6. Manage personnel and foster professional development through training and performance feedback.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Accredited four-year degree or equivalent in a relevant field, with 16 years of related experience or 20 years combined education and experience if non-degreed. Additional qualifications may apply based on location.
  • Effective communication skills with management, coworkers, clients, vendors, and contractors.
  • Technical knowledge necessary for the role and ability to understand applicable statutes and guidelines.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work efficiently.
  • Professional certification in risk management, business, accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
  • Leadership skills in risk and insurance issues.
  • Proficiency in business applications and software.
