Hotel Hartness is actively searching for an experienced, efficient, detailed, and self-motivated Director of Engineering and Facilities to join our Hotel Engineering team.

Hotel Hartness is a Boutique Luxury Resort – 73 Rooms, Spa, Restaurant, 16,000 Sq. Ft. Meeting Space, Pool & Extensive Grounds.

Position Summary

The Director of Engineering & Facilities at Hotel Hartness is responsible for overseeing all aspects of property maintenance, engineering, and facilities management to ensure the highest standards of safety, functionality, and aesthetic excellence. This position will lead a team in maintaining the 73-room boutique resort, full-service restaurant, spa, meeting/event spaces, pool, and extensive landscaped grounds. The Director will implement preventive maintenance programs, manage capital projects, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and provide leadership to the engineering team to enhance guest experience and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Leadership & Team Management
    • Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering and maintenance team, ensuring high performance and professional growth.
    • Oversee scheduling, training, and performance management of engineering staff.
    • Ensure that the team responds to guest and operational maintenance requests promptly and professionally.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  2. Preventive Maintenance & Facility Operations
    • Develop and manage a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety systems.
    • Conduct routine inspections to ensure all facilities and equipment are functioning optimally and efficiently.
    • Establish and maintain a preventive maintenance schedule for guest rooms, public spaces, back-of-house areas, and exterior property.
    • Monitor energy consumption and implement sustainability initiatives to enhance efficiency and cost savings.
  3. Capital Projects & Renovations
    • Oversee capital improvement projects, including renovations, upgrades, and infrastructure enhancements.
    • Collaborate with ownership and management to develop and execute long-term maintenance and capital plans.
    • Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and bids for large-scale maintenance or construction projects.
  4. Compliance & Safety Management
    • Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal building codes, health, and safety regulations.
    • Maintain OSHA standards, fire safety systems, and life safety protocols.
    • Conduct regular emergency preparedness drills and training for staff.
    • Maintain up-to-date documentation and certifications for boilers, elevators, fire alarms, and safety equipment.
  5. Guest Experience & Service Excellence
    • Ensure all engineering and maintenance services enhance the guest experience through seamless, high-quality operations.
    • Quickly address guest concerns and maintenance requests, ensuring satisfaction and timely resolution.
    • Work closely with housekeeping, front office, spa, and food & beverage teams to ensure operational excellence across all departments.
  6. Pool, Spa & Grounds Maintenance
    • Oversee maintenance of the resort's pool and spa, ensuring proper water treatment, equipment operation, and compliance with health regulations.
    • Manage landscaping and irrigation systems to maintain the aesthetic appeal of the extensive grounds.
    • Supervise seasonal preparations, including pool opening/closing and weatherproofing facilities.
  7. Budgeting & Financial Management
    • Develop and manage the engineering and maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
    • Oversee procurement and inventory management for maintenance supplies and capital expenditures.
    • Analyze expenses, forecast operational needs, and identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.

Qualifications & Experience

?Minimum 5-7 years of experience in engineering/facilities management in a luxury hotel, resort, or hospitality setting.
?Bachelor's degree or technical certification in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field preferred.
?Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
?Experience with capital projects, vendor management, and contract negotiations.
?Proven leadership ability, with experience managing and developing engineering teams.
?Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, fire codes, life safety systems, and environmental sustainability.
?Proficiency in maintenance software and work order management systems.
?Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
?Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and on-call duty as needed.
