Job Responsibilities

Operates heavy motorized equipment on the Hot Crew such as, but not limited to, Backhoe, Excavator, Front End Loader, Lowboy Truck Tractor, Motor Grader, Road Patcher, Truck Mounted, Slope Mower, and Tractor with Ditcher. Supports foreman, directly or indirectly, in daily safety work practices. This includes, but is not limited to flagging Operations, PPE, Vehicle Safety, CDL inspections, hazardous material waste, and other related work practices. Performs various duties including manual labor or operating equipment in such maintenance tasks as clearing of right-of-ways, cleaning and grading drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, patching potholes, making base repairs, paving driveways, laying pipes, building catch basins and pouring concrete for curbs, sidewalks and raised medians. Assists in on-call operations for after-hours emergencies, and snow and ice plan and Hurricane Lane Reversal Plan. Assists with inclement weather operations, may include operation of (medium and heavy) equipment and being available for extended working hours and /or 12 hour shifts. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
One (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
