The Packaging Specialist is responsible for the safe and efficient organization, cleaning and recording of returnable containers utilized for shipment of customer products. The Packaging Specialist must be an experienced forklift driver, or become certified to operate a forklift, and knowledgeable of warehousing procedures. Knowledge of safety procedures, equipment, accurate and timely completion of documents, housekeeping and best management practices are required.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Observe all company policies, rules, procedures, regulations and perform all assigned duties in a safe, efficient, courteous manner.
* Maintain a valid forklift operator's certificate.
* Unload and receive returnable containers and enter receipts into the customer Container Management System and store the containers by type in the assigned area.
* Maintain the container fleet by sending damaged containers out for repair, replacing placards and cleaning the containers on the schedule specified by the customer by pressure washing, wiping and or vacuuming.
* Maintain the correct number of containers in inventory by requesting container shipments or pickups from the customer.
* Ensure that production has the right containers available to meet the production schedule by auditing container inventory and shipping containers to the plant as required.
* Conduct stock taking physical inventory of containers as required by BMW book the balances in CMS.
* Complete reconciliations, orders, complaints, and requests for expendable use payments for containers.
* Become the resident expert on returnable containers and assist the team in container related issues.
* Cross train to assist in shipping, receiving and line support as required for backup requirements.
* Maintain a clean and orderly workplace and a good attendance record.
* Perform other related duties as directed by supervisor and management.
Qualifications
* HS Diploma or equivalent required
* The work environment is to be kept as clean as possible; however, wet, and dusty conditions are common. Temperatures may range from 32F (in winter months) to 100F (in summer months).
* Physical labor involves handling containers and moving pallets that exceed 100lbs
* The Packaging Specialist must be capable of using all equipment associated with loading and unloading trucks.
* To maintain the safety of the employee and others, the Packaging Specialist must have normal/corrected eyesight and normal/corrected hearing, be able to distinguish smells and distinguish temperatures by touch.
