DETENTION OFFICER

Description:

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Detention Officer in our Police Department.

Sign-On Bonus:

  • Uncertified Applicants: Receive $1,000 upon completion of training and an additional $1,000 after one year of service.
  • Certified Applicants: Receive $1,500 upon completion of training and an additional $1,500 after one year of service.

Please note: To be eligible for bonus payments, employees must be in good standing at the time the bonuses are issued.

Responsibilities: Book inmates into the jail; complete required paperwork; obtain photographs and fingerprints; ensure welfare and security of inmates while incarcerated; process inmates for release; transport inmates to county detention facilities; Act as desk officer in meeting public; answer phones, taking messages, route calls; provide assistance in regard to warrants; take written reports; enter information into records management system; receive, review, prepare and/or submit a variety of reports and documents.; able to work metal detector for court.

Job Requirements: High School Diploma/GED and basic computer skills. Must be able to successfully complete a three-week training class at the SC Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia which includes a physical fitness test and must be completed within one year of hire date. Must be able to work varying shifts, up to 12 hour per shift. Must be able to qualify with department issued firearm; must have a valid state issued driver's license.

Hiring Process: Initial application, written and physical abilities testing, interview board, initial background investigation, review of personal history questionnaire, polygraph, meeting with the Chief of Police, conditional offer of employment by Human Resources, psychological and medical evaluation, final offer of employment. Selection process may take eight (8) to twelve (12) weeks

Hours: Varying shifts, up to 12 hour per shift. Training will take place from either 7 AM to 7 PM or 7 PM to 7 AM

Salary: Minimum salary $46,233 year.
