This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. RECESS (Recreation, Education, Community, Exercise, Social, and Service), a signature program of The YMCA of Greenville for post-high school adults with diverse abilities. During programming, participants learn about nutrition, fitness, social responsibility, community outreach, and independent living skills. RECESS allows adults with diverse abilities not only a place to continue to learn new skills, but also gives them a place to connect with friends and gain a sense of belonging.
Under the oversight of the Recess Program Director, the Recess Assistant assists the RECESS Program Director with the administration and oversight of the RECESS program in some or all the following functional areas: curriculum development, management of staff ratios, conflict resolution, and program fiscal responsibility. The RECESS Program Assistant will work closely with the RECESS Program Manager to ensure the RECESS program is serving and meeting the needs of the participants with diverse abilities.

Responsibilities:
Recess Program Management:
- Assist with developing and implementing policies and standard operating procedures to ensure consistency of the program across the association.
- Support the director with the oversight for the development and implementation of the curriculum and lesson plans through scheduling classes and connecting with program leads while utilizing risk management guidelines. Contribute and visit the different classroom sites to maintain oversight of RECESS classroom safety, ratios, and a positive environment for participants.
- Creates, implements, and manages a RECESS parent resource/support group.
- Assist the RECESS Program Director with the implementation of action plans from quality standards and net promoter surveys.
Communication:
- Creates and distributes a RECESS monthly newsletter with input from the recess staff.
- Create and publish the RECESS Story through the YMCA messaging board, social media, and Community partners. Including, but not limited to, posting weekly site activities, monitoring posts for quality assurance and best practices.
Fiscal Responsibility:
- Assist RECESS Program Manager with program fiscal responsibility: including, but not limited to billing, processing payments, follow up with late payments and monitoring classroom budgets.
- Assist RECESS Program Director with annual campaign goal.
Other Expectations:
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
- Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
- Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
- Follow mandated reporting requirements.
- Adhere to job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
- Follow employee and volunteer screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.
- Provide employees and volunteers with ongoing supervision and training related to abuse risk.
- Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers.
- Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
- Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organizations progressive disciplinary procedures.
- Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
- Communicate to all employees and volunteers the organizations commitment to protect their consumers from abuse.
- Report essential abuse risk management information to the board of directors.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 20 years of age.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the field of diverse abilities and/or at least 3 years of classroom instructional experience
- Must have a loving and compassionate spirit.
- Demonstrated ability to create curriculum.
- Good time management skills and meeting deadlines
- Demonstrated practice in the following leadership attributes: Accountability, Managerial Courage, Ownership, Team Player, and Discipline
- Proficiency in or knowledge of using a variety of computer software applications, especially PowerPoint, Excel, and Microsoft Word software.
- Knowledge and ability to interpret laws, regulations, policies & and procedures relevant to the program area.
- High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
- Good to excellent spelling, grammar, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
- Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment.
- Exhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility, and leadership.
- YMCA experience preferred.
